Squats Felt Pretty Good

Last night, I did not sleep well or long enough. Long enough was the real issue. We ate supper late last night, so my stomach was churning with Molly getting home so late. My brain is still on the old schedule, so I was up a little before 3:00 this morning too. I needed to take my thyroid pill, then I was just awake. The time change is stupid. Typically, I take my levothyroxine in the middle of the night, but I did not wake up last night.

Fairly early this morning, I got to looking for a workout to do. I wanted something quick and easy, so I could get a shower. I was feeling exhausted, and my stomach was still not really thrilled from eating pizza again last night. The pizza was good, though!

Street parking is being weird with their WODs lately, and I may wind up canceling my membership eventually over it if I find something else that looks interesting. I have not looked yet, and I don’t know when I will. Last month, it was the ruck stuff, which I have zero interest in doing. This month it’s the bro session stuff, which I don’t mind, but it does not belong as a daily WOD. I want the WOD to be more than a workout. Not high reps of bench press or something, and overly complicated rep schemes. I want simplicity. I don’t want games and trophies and shit like that. The reward is my health.

I wanted something non-weighted, at least, to start things off this morning. My knee is still feeling a bit wonky after it gave out while simply walking up the stairs yesterday morning. I was thinking of air squats, so I found one with those in it. It had the dumb hop-overs that they’re so obsessed with, too, but the 10 air squats at a time are what I wanted to loosen and get my knee moving. It was not so many that it would risk worsening it if it’s not right, but it wasn’t so few that it did nothing either.

The WOD felt pretty good, and my knee felt better after it. I ate something and worked on my family tree a bit, but hen it started getting nice outside. I thought it would be a good time to try out this week’s back squats and feel the warm sunshine on me through the door while I rested, so I went out to give them a go.

The first thing that I noticed with the lighter sets is even though my knee felt a little tight the back squats felt good. It loosed up as the weight increased.

The final working set called for five or more reps at a rather heavy 270 pounds for me. I always remind myself that this weight is actually heavier than my one rep max ever was in the Crossfit gym. The squats felt pretty good to me. The last couple of reps did feel a bit like a grind, but the video I recorded showed no sign of that or any technique breakage at all. I was happy to get my five reps in and stopped there, since my knee had been bugging me and it’s been months since I’ve squatted his heavy. In the one rep in the middle, I had to step forward a slight bit when I was fully standing up. I’m not sure where that came from, but I did not notice any cause for it, and the squat itself looked great.

I ate something and went outside to get a little sunshine when I was done. I need all the good vibes I can get before we walk over to vote this evening. All in all, it was a great day. As I am typing this out, I am sitting here with the two upstairs windows opened and a wonderful breeze coming through the house in November. It’s in the middle 70s! Not much is better than fresh outside air coming through the house.
