Our First Accumulating Snow!
Early this morning it started out fairly cold and cloudy but dry. It didn’t take long for some snowflakes to be flying, though. By the middle of the morning, the flakes were in the air and even sticking to the ground in some grassy areas. There was rain mixed with the snow and borderline temperatures, but it was still falling.
The snowfall rates varied between light and moderate most of the afternoon, but by later in the afternoon it had picked up in intensity. It was piling up decently enough too.
This evening we walked over to Joy’s for a few drinks and supper, and there was a nice, steady and fairly heavy snow falling. The air had that snowfall sound to it too. There was virtually no wind, so the snow was a beautiful thing to see as it just floated and fluttered its way to the ground. By then, there was at least an inch on the elevated and grassy areas. I was able to get enough to make a snowball and hit Molly with it, then carried another one halfway to Joy’s threatening to do it again. On the way home, I made more and hit her like five times. It was great to see our first accumulating snow. Sure, we had a dusting of snow the other day, but I don’t really count that since it warmed up overnight, and it was long gone by morning.
This snow will be gone by Christmas most likely, but there is another shot at getting more snow for Christmas itself. That would be nice. Regardless of what happens for winter, it was nice to have this early snow and a great way to spend the day before the winter solstice.
