Nice Longer WOD This Morning

I have been wanting to get a nice longer WOD in for some time now. I’ve been getting in shorter but more intense ones lately, but the thought of getting something slower and more deliberate has been on my mind for a while now.

There has been an older 25-minute AMRAP that I’ve done several times that I have been thinking would be a good one to be more of a burner. It’s not like the recent trend SP has had toward longer but particularly dumb workouts. Last month’s ruck crap was a prime example.

It was a miserable 25 minute AMRAP or rowing + power cleans, then rowing again + dumbbell squats. Simple. Not overly complicated rep schemes or dull repetitive 50+ reps of the same movement.

I didn’t go all out. I just wanted a longer period of movement. It turns out I was just a portion of a row short of my best score on this workout. I’ve completed it a few times. Today, I used the 35 pound dumbbells for both the power cleans and the squats. I did all of those sets unbroken. It was only 15 reps each time but still. The third time through, I did break the power cleans.

I will admit that I have been a bit lazy with longer WODs. Sure, I was distracted earlier this year, and it was hot and humid as hell during the summer, but I should have ramped them up more in the recent weeks. That is always my worst fear when I end up missing a day or backing off a bit. It’s not difficult to keep going, but it can definitely be challenging to get started again.
