Nice Little Snow Before The Cold

Yesterday morning it started off not looking very promising for snow. There was a bit of rain with it above freezing, and the start time for the snow was pushed back a bit in the forecast.

By the middle of the morning, the snow was starting to fall, and it was whitening the ground quickly for a fairly light snow. I guess it has been fairly cold, and there were still a few patches of leftover snow in the areas that see no sunshine.

By early afternoon, the snow was picking up, and it did not take that long for the radar representation to start looking great.

Sometime in the middle of yesterday afternoon, the snow started falling very heavily and piling up quickly. Visibly really dropped with it. We had a short time when we seemed to be getting two plus inches and hour rates. Unfortunately, the storm was small and moving out quickly.

Fortunately, with the storm’s fast movement, it moved into the Philadelphia area to turn the second half of the Eagles game into a snowball. That was really nice to see. It was fun to watch Barkley run, but at the same time I was thinking, No, don’t do that. Don’t fuck your knee or something. Snow games always add a nice touch to playoff football.

We wound up getting somewhere around 6 inches of snow. It was surprisingly wet at first but became powdery.

The fresh snow and cold front allowed it to really cool off overnight. The low temperature this morning was in the middle singles digits. That was well below the forecast. A little over 10 degrees below the forecast as a matter of fact. Wonder if that means this week’s arctic shot will overperform. Time will tell, but I would guess not, since it’s not a direct shot but moving into the Midwest then east, so the air can modify a bit before getting to Central Pennsylvania.
