Five Squats At 270 This Morning Felt Great

I have been a little more consistent with both my lifting and my WODs over the past few weeks. I had been feeling very rundown and pretty achy, so I have not been pushing myself too far.

There was a bit of depression sticking in my head too. I had a good conversation with someone, and that helped a lot, but I think it was more hormonal than anything. I had gone to the doctor, and I thought for sure my TSH would be high with the brain fog and stuff, but it was actually good. My vitamin D is low again, and that can cause these issues too. I have been collecting more sunshine when the weather allows and taking vitamin D again and feeling a bit better.

Last night I had a good night’s sleep and was very excited to get out in the garage early this morning and get under the bar. I was out there before eight o’clock this morning squatting, and they were feeling excellent too. I took my time and enjoyed the lifts as I worked my way up through the weights. As the weight got to the more moderate sets, the squats were feeling perfect and after a few iffy ones at the lightest weights. I think I just rushed the lighter sets.

The final AMRAP today called for three plus reps at 270 pounds. I know I say it every time, but I cannot let it go. I love the fact that I am repping weights above what I had been stalled at when we went to the Crossfit gym. This weight felt light and perfect. I only stopped at the five reps because I did not want to go overboard. I know I had been feeling very rundown for a while, so I want to feel this out. Since I felt good, I actually remembered to and recorded them, and the video showed nearly textbook and perfect squats!

I actually did double WODs today too. Both of them were shift workouts, but as I have been saying, it was for simplicity. The vault WOD this week, for example, was another one where they combined burpees with something else. It works for the devil press because it has a good flow, but for cleans, I just feel like it puts my back in a less than ideal position because of the movement pattern. It is just too easy to allow myself to get sloppy, so I don’t do it. I don’t do this fitness stuff for weird shit like they used to do in old school Crossfit when they had to do stupid things to make the workouts harder. I do it for general fitness and health.

The other workout I did was nothing special or challenging. I just wanted to move a little more and found an older one that served that purpose for me to do today.
