Deadlifts Felt Pretty Good Today

Last night I slept pretty well. Really, I’ve slept well the past several nights. I’ve had a night or two here and there since my discovery but really no consistently good sleep. I’m on like the third day in a row now! It feels good to be getting better sleep in.

I drank my coffee and was thinking about what I wanted to do in the garage gym today. This week I am saving my back squats for this weekend when Molly is home so she can watch, so that was out. I decided I would give this week’s somewhat heavy deadlifts a try. It really should be heavier, but I messed up the numbers this cycle. I decided to just go with what I had.

The light sets felt excellent right from the start. The bar was cold as we don’t have the heat on in the garage yet, but not unmanageable. I was feeling great with my lifts, so I just took my time working through them and enjoyed the exercise they provided for both my body physically and my brain. These heavier lifts always help me mentally, especially squats and deadlifts. They just help clear the mind clutter. I guess because they take such deep focus to do. When the weight feels heavier, too, there is an instant feeling of gratification when I make the lift.

My final programmed set for this morning was the one plus AMRAP at 285 pounds. I made two reps easily enough, and they felt great. I forgot to record it to see what it looked like for sure, but the lifts felt good.

After I finished up with the deadlifts, I was starting to think about getting a quick, simple WOD in. I looked at the site as I was putting my bar away. I settled on one that was air squats and low jumps. Today, like I have been doing so often, recently I went with shift because the regular one was yet another one of their overthought EMOM where you do this and that each minuted. I just wanted to move.

The plates I was jumping on were sitting in front of the plate rack with some dumbbells on top of it, and it got me thinking, Why not do some pointless bicep curls? I grabbed the 35 pound dumbbells and did 4 sets of 10. They’re not really functional, but the bro lifts are fun sometimes too! Who doesn’t want to look better? I’ve been doing these sometimes lately.

Slowly, but surely, I feel like I am getting more into my fitness thing. The considerable steps backward that street parking has been taking with their programming has been really not that helpful at all in this regard. So much so that I will eventually look into other programming options. I had wanted to wait until I got to my 2000th logged WOD, but I don’t know if I can wait that long. I am tired of the chore of hunting for something that isn’t just plain dumb or part of their extra programs that I have zero interest in.

Music for today was Cailleach Bheur

Later on, when Molly got home this evening, we did a WOD together. It was hang snatches, sit-ups, and unweighted lunges. It felt good to double up today on workout again. Even better was to spend time together suffering to better ourselves. We don’t do that nearly as often as we should! Time and space constraints are the cause of that.

For that WOD the music today was Jinjer.
