Broke Out The Strongman Sandbag
I did sleep pretty well last night, considering we went to Joy’s and had a few drinks for supper last night. I guess it’s because we went fairly early.
When I woke up this morning, I felt pretty good and surprisingly refreshed. While I was drinking my coffee, I was contemplating doing something a little more intense for my WOD today. The sunny skies and slightly milder forecast had me thinking about the weighted sled, I guess. I know the yard will be a mud pit once the ground thaws, so that’s out for a while.
I started considering using the Strongman sandbag. It’s been a long time since I used that. Maybe I used it in the fall or late last summer? I am not sure, but so much of the last 8 months has been a blur. I have been doubling up on WODs lately and feeling good strengthwise after feeling like I had lost a good bit from the flu.
Our garage is attached to the house, so I don’t like to drop the heavy sandbag over my shoulder in the garage. Fortunately, Street Parking does have one where it’s just cleaning it to the shoulder, so that’s a bit more of a controlled lowering. The WOD causes 25 dball to the shoulder, then some other stuff, and ends with 25 more lifts. That was just the right intensity I had in mind for this type of WOD right now. It was a challenging set, but not overly so.
I went with the slightly lighter 90ish pound sandbag today, not knowing how my body was going to react to it or how rusty I would be with the movement. The first couple cleans felt off, but I quickly got the feel for it. I did not go overly fast with them either, and that was a choice for this day. I was really pleased with how it felt.
The air squats were slower than normal, and that thousand-meter row felt like it was taking forever, but I got it done.
I am looking forward to playing with these fun and challenging toys more outside when it gets milder.
